Unicode, Google, and Mozilla set out on a mission five years ago to make lightweight, portable, and secure i18n. The team not only achieved this but also contributed an array of utilities to the Rust ecosystem, including crates for zero-copy deserialization, FFI, and Unicode text handling.
Shane Carr is a Staff Software Engineer on Google’s i18n Engineering team. He is chair of the ICU4X Technical Committee in Unicode and of TC39-TG2 for JavaScript i18n standards in ECMAScript. Shane routinely gives talks at conferences, virtual events, and community meetup groups on topics including Unicode, ECMAScript, and internationalization.
