We share findings from an ongoing research on Rust’s organizing processes. We found that Rust’s roadmaps lost effectiveness owing to pending work items, cultural issues, and external factors (e.g., the pandemic). We discuss its implications for how accountability emerged in the community.
I am a postdoctoral associate in the Software and Societal Systems Department at Carnegie Mellon University. I study collaboration and knowledge practices in technically complex work contexts such as open source software communities.
